On the Normalization of domestic passes in France. Or: How the State Keeps Trying, Again and Again, to Chip Away at Fundamental Freedoms.
What a symbol, indeed. On this 14th of July — France's national holiday, commemorating two founding moments of the Republic, 14 July 1789 and 14 July 1790 — the day that has, for over two centuries, marked a watershed: the storming of the Bastille, the birth of the Convention, the people rising against the Ancien Régime, the very emblem of the fight for liberty… on this day of all days, the Macronist regime retreats into its ivory tower.
