Covid-19 : Viral Unaccountability
A new chapter unfolds in the haste to classify the mishandling of the Covid-19 epidemic in France. Let us bet that no trace will remain.
The striking aspect of the post-Covid era in France does not lie in the fact that the Cour of Justice the Republic ( CJR - the juridiction of expection competent to judge ministers suspected of wrongdoing while in office), ruled to prosécuted Edouard Philippe (former prime minister), Agnès Buzyn and Olivier Véran (both former minister of Health). The CJR dismissing all charges is anything but surprising.
The three former ministers were never truly troubled. Let us recall the indictment of Agnès Buzyn, which ultimately resulted in her being placed under the status of an assisted witness; her refusal to respond to a new summons by the investigating judges without anyone, in the end, bothering to pursue her. Let us also recall that barely seven months after the investigation was opened (in July 2020), the Prosecutor General at the Court of Cassation sent a note to the three CJR judges : no evidence of a criminal offense could be attributed to the accused, argued François Molins. Thus, some investigations were dropped – “not everyone is untouchable,” a disillusioned investigator reportedly told a witness during questioning, according to our information – and here we are, four years later.
